The mk iv marines look good, but I can't help feeling the terminators and the contemptor in particular look a bit cheap compared to the fw models.

Having seen the GW ones up close and having built and painted the FW ones, I can honestly say that the GW ones are far superior!

They'll be 100% easier to do conversions with and weapon swaps.

Also, the GW plastic mold designs allows for almost no mold lines and mold slips, unlike the FW ones!

Plus.....you won't need to wash them!

DBM were you thinking of running an escalation league for HH at Outpost? Or if you'd prefer just to be part of one, I can lend my hand to it. Anyone else interested in this?

You know, Troy - I was giving some thought to it last night. It's pretty tempting. If I do it, I definitely could use a hand with it. Pete laid out a pretty good framework with Skulls Road. Thinking about the timing of it, if we were to start at the end of this month, it would give 6 months to prepare for the next Skulls Tournament during ANZAC Day Weekend.

I don't know how realistic it is to ask folks to have 500 points of HH painted up by, say, Dec 1 - particularly given how much of that would be infantry. I don't know - what are people's thoughts?

If we were to do a HH Escalation League, should we:
A) Start before the end of the year with the goal of getting folks painted HH armies for the ANZAC Day Weekend Skulls Tournaments?
B) Or start in January and not worry about the pressure of trying to have something ready for ANZAC Day Weekend?

:( As I bought those orks off you last week and intend to paint all of them, for me December is not really a good start date. I also am intending on getting in on some bolt action with Peter if he runs one so I would prefer a longer escalation than 6 months till next skulls, obviously it has to be shorter to keep up interest though.

Yup happy to help - I think January gives us a bit more time, and I'm waiting on Santa to bring me HH goodies!

I would definitely be in for another escalation league.

another option if you wanted to start the league this year is the victory is vengeance campaign from book 3, which basically kill team in 30k. (only requires a 10 to 15 marines. includes rules for degrading armour and lack of ammo)

also there are a lot of awesome missions thru out the HH books that most people are total unaware of (ie most people only stick to the terrible standard 40k missions) so organising some great missions would be dead simple.

Also happy to help Jacob

Theres a few aussie online stores that do around 20% off so you can counteract that increase if it goes ahead... still, Im glad i preordered mine at under 210.

What? GW (okay, FW) provides us with a useful structure for running an Escalation League/Campaign?

Seriously, though - I started reading Victory is Vengeance and it looks pretty awesome. It's got me thinking about how to add a layer of Campaign (with experience and unit improvement, etc) into an Escalation League. Folks can PM me with their ideas and I'll start to ponder on them.

I'm going to be going through the HH books to really have a look at the campaigns and missions now. It would be pretty awesome to have the Escalation League cover a certain period during the HH and have players feel like they're making a contribution to an overall effort of Loyalists vs Traitors.

Hahaha if you want a full campaign with the structure all worked out for you? book 4 has an awesome campaign rule set.
Soil worker and myself tried it out in our own little 6 game series earlier this year, It tailors for loyalist v traitor teams. You can set war zone traits, strategic objectives, the warlord can gain experience necromunda style, etc...
It would work really well for full 30k games.

Worth noting now that all sources are saying that this was an error, visions was printed a while ago and GW lowered the price since then.
