<UPDATED - 14th July 2015>
A few simple "common sense" rules apply to everyone who uses the forums to ensure pleasurable use of the site by all. Please read the following carefully before posting for the first time:
1. Keep it Friendly.
This forum has been set up for West Australian games hobbyists to share their hobby, arrange games, and generally chat about gaming stuff. It's not a forum for abuse or flaming gaming companies, complaining about prices, independent retailers, clubs or other gamers. If you have issues with any of the preceeding, take your concerns to the appropriate place. If you wish to criticise someone's views on the forum - Keep it Relevant (Rule #2) and Keep it Constructive (Rule #3).
Please respect the other members of the forum, we don't expect you to agree with everything being posted but please behave respectfully to other board members. Personal attacks will not be tolerated. (flaming/trolling)
Be considerate of other people, their gender & their backgrounds. Suffice to say, racism will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
No swearing or being 'clever' with the word filter. SHOUTING ALL THE TIME is not acceptable either.
When posting images, please ensure that the image you use is not pornographic, inappropriate or offensive in any way. Offensive images (even those that are gaming related) will be deleted on sight and may lead to further disciplinary action. If you need to consider "Is this acceptable to post?" - then it probably isn't.
2. Keep it Relevant.
Please stay on topic. Personal 1-on-1 chatting should be taken to a Private Message (PM) or e-mail.
If you absolutely need to post an off topic note for some reason, make sure it is clearly identifiable with an [OT] in the subject line. Even better - use the "The Lobby" forum, which has been set up for this exact purpose.
Please do not use "l33t" or text speak of any sort. Members are expected to use proper sentences with punctuation and capital letters. We all appreciate that "Bad English" may be the first language of some posters but from previous experience We've learned that questions to a forum are far more likely to generate a good response if the question has been well thought out and presented.
Please do not "double post" (one of your own messages right after the other one). Instead, use the "edit" function to modify your first post and add to it as necessary.
You must not spam the list or use meaningless one word or one line replies.
Please don't bump any messages, if no one has replied to the post then clearly the forum members have nothing to add. Having a thread regurgitated artificially is annoying.
3. Keep it Constructive.
The ultimate goal of these forums is to provide a place where hobbyists can post their work, their views and their questions in a friendly and helpful environment. If you disagree with someone's view or you have a criticism or assistance to offer - Keep it Constructive. Make sure you explain any critical comments you make if there's a risk of misinterpretation and try to be positive and helpful at all times. You'd prefer the same from others wouldn't you? Some good natured ribbing or trash talking is always welcome (especially leading up to or after a big game!) but don't get too carried away.
Criticism can be a powerful tool. We certainly don't want you all to avoid being critical of any issues in the hobby (whether it be a games company, a small hobby business, a club, individuals or someone's work) that form good discussion, but we do
expect you to do it in a well thought out manner that promotes good topical discussion. Not just an opportunity to have a whinge without being helpful at all.
4. Keep it Legal.
Fairly obvious really. This is a forum for games hobbyists & enthusiasts. Any discussions about software piracy, where to get stolen goods, illegal drugs, etc will get the poster immediately banned.
You must not post copyrighted material from games publishers (or any other) publications nor discuss ways of illegaly obtaining such products. When posting army lists for example, don't just copy the exact troop entries out of the books. Posting the names of items as well as the combined points totals of each entry of your list is fine though, just use your common sense.
Copying of rules, software or miniatures is a breach of copyright and can be theft of Intellectual Property. Please do not post here asking "How do I cast GW miniatures?" or "Can anyone burn me a copy of XXX game?". This includes any information specifically aimed at instructing people on how to copy or obtain copies of such items. Any such posts will be deleted and subject to the penalties described below.
5. Buying, Selling & Trading.
Please note that as of Feb 3rd 2008
- buying, selling & trading of models and hobby supplies is permitted
on the WestGamer forums.
There is now a dedicated "Trading Post
" forum, which has been set up for this exact purpose. This is the only location where such activity is permitted. This forum is governed by its own set of rules and conditions of use
which you must abide by in order to use this service. Failure to do so will result in the same disciplinary action as described below, as well as potential barring from the Trading Post forum for a period of time. Please ensure that you read the rules in full before using the forum for the first time.
There are also many other forums or marketplaces on the Internet for the buying, selling & trading of hobby supplies. You can also check out WargamerAU
as a couple of suggestions.
Please note that businesses (and that includes "work from home" or "weekend" businesses) may not make posts detailing stock movement, new product lines, or anything of a sales or product advertising nature on the WestGamer forums (except for event information - which is completely acceptable). Contact the Admin instead and we'll see what we can do.
6. Account Use.
Multiple accounts are not permitted on WestGamer, as they can potentially be used to sidestep posting bans, or to "anonymously" flame other members. If you currently have more than one account registered, please contact the admin to have excess accounts deleted. When discovered, additional accounts will be deleted on sight and the original user will face a forum ban.
When adding an avatar image to your account, please ensure that the image you use is not pornographic, inappropriate or offensive in any way. Offensive images will be deleted on sight and may lead to further disciplinary action.
Due to the fact that images included in user's signatures tend to increase page loading time and can potentially add to the site's bandwidth usage - you may not use pictures or other graphics in your signature without first seeking permission from the Admin. Club WestGamer
permitted to add images to their forum signature however (within a 600px × 100px size limit).
7. Personal Information.
As this website is designed to cater for a "niche" community (ie: the West Australian GW hobbyist), I would like to encourage users to share details & hobby accomplishments with others on the site. However, as WestGamer is a public forum - you must also keep in mind that any personal details or information may be potentially viewed by anyone online.
Please think before you post personal details. Obviously it's no biggie to attach your real name, e-mail or picture to a post, but you may wish to keep things like phone numbers and home addresses to private messages (PMs) or direct e-mails. WestGamer will NEVER (unless authorised by you) give out personal information about any of its users to a third party, but I cannot be held responsible for what information you volunteer yourself on a public forum.
Problems & Issues
Bans work on a 'three strikes and you're out!' system but we retain the right to ban people without warning if we see fit. Remember that the forum Admin's word is final on all matters relating to forum conduct.
If you see a post which you find offensive or which breaks one of the rules listed above, please report it to the board moderators. You can do this by using the "report post" button (
), located at the bottom right corner of each post. We will act to edit / censor / delete the post as is appropriate as soon as possible and take any further action necessary. Please only use this feature if you have a real issue, as we will not take it lightly if you are simply mucking around.
The views represented by myself and any other moderators are personal and our own. This is also true of the entire site. Westgamer is not affiliated with Games Workshop or any other business, and we do not represent them or their views on this site. Any posts by GW staff on these boards should also be considered the same way unless specifically stated otherwise.
If you are unhappy with a post or a moderator decision, please send an email to the Webmaster: firstname.lastname@example.org
. Do not post a locked thread again and do not launch a personal attack on a user, moderator, or anyone else on the forum.
If you want your wargaming website to be included in our links section please e-mail me with details of your site and a url.
Likewise, if you wish to post a link to Westgamer, please get in touch and a button / banner can be supplied.
