Ladies and gentlemen, please allow me to present your:
2013 ULTIMATE WILDCARDS!
Ultimate Warhammer 40,000
(Thorhorsemen) should be no stranger to anyone who has spent a decent amount of time on the WA 40K tournament scene. He is one of our state's most accomplished Tournament Organisers and can often be seen putting the participants of these many events ahead of his own needs as a player. Gary has still managed to find enough time on the battlefield this year to build the results needed to achieve selection for the 2013 WA ATC team - a great achievement in itself. With these accomplishments and contributions in mind, we're very pleased to be offering Gary the opportunity to attend the Ultimates as a 2013 Wildcard.
(Brookesy) is a multi-skilled player of several game systems but has achieved most success on the 40K scene in recent times, also representing WA on the 2013 ATC team with great results. The judges have also recognised Nick's exemplary attitude and superb hobby skills which are evident in a large range of his custom creations that have found their way onto the forums here and many gaming tables. Nick was not far away from qualifying for the tournament of his own accord, but it was a relatively easy decision for us to enable his attendance with a Wildcard!
(Polar) is a prime example of someone dedicated to their gaming community. As a PP Press Ganger he has spent many hours bringing new players into the fold, maintaining a helpful presence online and at the various games clubs, as well as running or supporting the lion's share of Warmachine/ Hordes events on the annual tournament calendar. He is another accomplished player who has made the sacrifice to support the hobby of others over putting personal time in as a tournament competitor. He is a skilled player worthy of any event and a great addition to Ultimate Warmachine via Wildcard this year.
(churchless) can be pointed to as a large contributing factor behind the thriving Warmachine & Hordes scene in Geraldton, where he has successfully cultivated a dedicated playing group and the "Geromachine" events of recent years. Despite the huge range of events now available to attend for players, it is still tougher on the regional crowd due to the mostly Perth metro travel requirements. We feel therefore that the opportunity to attend the Ultimate Warmachine tournament is well deserved and we're very pleased to have Steve join the pool as a Wildcard entrant.
(bango) has done the Ultimates tour as a 40K contender before, narrowly missing out (by half a point!) on taking out the overall championship in 2011. He has switched focus somewhat to the Warhammer Fantasy scene this year with some decent event results, just falling shy of what would be required for a regular Ultimates qualification. On the merits of his past performance and his supreme ability as a painter, hobbyist and sportsman, Pete is another very worthy Wildcard contender for the Warhammer contest.
(Blair16) is another Ultimate Warhammer veteran who this year has been largely sidelined from the tournament scene due to his heavy study commitments. It hasn't dimmed his ability or his enthusiasm however, and given his skill across all key areas of the hobby, the fantastic recognition he's received from his peers via nomination, and his proven past performances at the event - we've decided to give him another crack at the title (and at his brother Adam who will be competing as well!) to see if he can bring it home from a Wildcard invite.
I'd also like to give a HUGE congratulations to all of this year's nominees! There was some great thought put into many of the names this year, and it certainly contributed to a tough round of decisions from the judging panel (myself, Simon Addicott and Adrian Chia) to pick the successful invitees. That said, we're confident that we've picked the contenders who will offer the most to the event this year and provide the quality competition and hobby showcase that makes the tournament what it is!
Thanks to all of the people who took the time to nominate - your efforts in this process are much appreciated. And remember - it's a huge honour to receive a nomination, regardless of a person's ultimate selection or not.
Bring on the end of October!!
