Qualifying For Ultimates! (2014)
[/size]

The Ultimate Tournaments are invite only events. In order to obtain an invitation to the tournaments, you must prove your worth by performing well in local Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000 and Warmachine/Hordes tournaments in WA. By doing this, you can be certain that you have truly earned your place amongst the contenders and will be in for a tough battle as the best hobbyists in the state compete for the Ultimate championship!

There are 16 places available at Ultimate Warhammer 40,000 and 12 places available at Ultimate Warmachine* & Ultimate Warhammer. Successful qualifiers will need to meet the following criteria:
*(Note that as of 01/08/14 this has been revised to 12 places available for the 2014 Ultimate Warmachine section of the event)

Ultimate Tournament Invites #1 - #14 (or #1 - #10 in the case of Ultimate Warmachine & Ultimate Warhammer)
- Previous year overall winner.
- The top position holders as at 1st Oct 2014 on the WestGamer Tournament League standard ladder (for Ultimate Warhammer & Ultimate Warhammer 40,000)*, counting back until invites are filled - OR;
- The top position holders as at 1st Oct 2014 on the WestGamer Tournament League general's ladder (for Ultimate Warmachine)*, counting back until invites are filled.

Should a player decline an invitation, the invite will move to the next player in line to qualify. Likewise, if a player cannot attend the Ultimate Tournament for whatever reason, their invite will be offered to the next in line as well. If a player qualifies for an invite at multiple Ultimate tournaments, then they may only select one of these to accept.

*The Ultimate Tournament Judges reserve the right to exclude any event from qualification if we believe that it does not meet suitable requirements for the tournaments.

The "Good Sportsman" clause.
Any invitation to the Ultimate Tournaments may be withdrawn if at any events a player attends during the year they are reported to be a poor sportsman. The Judging panel will examine each case on its own merits to determine whether to exclude invitation or not, speaking to the player involved and where possible that event's organisers and other competitors. If a player is deemed to be unsuitable for an invite under this clause, then the judges decision will be final and no further discussion will be entered into on the matter. Non-qualification in this manner will not be made public, and will not be commented upon by the Judges to any 3rd party.
Of course we will only exclude someone if evidence of poor sportsmanship is clear, and if we believe that it will put the enjoyment of other players at risk. Players that are excluded from an invite in this manner are certainly welcome to attempt to qualify again at a future event.

Ultimate Tournament "WildCard" Entries
- WildCard entries to be issued to two hobbyists (per game system event) selected by the judging panel, who we believe to be worthy of representation at the Ultimate Tournament due to accomplishments over the past year. This could be due to just barely missing out on a placing at an event, accomplishments at an event outside of WA, personalities of renown or notoriety, or contributions to the hobby community in general. Nominations will be accepted from the public during the year for WildCards, but the Judges will make the final decision as to the place getters. Suffice to say that reasons for each WildCard invitation will be made available to the public.

Nominations for Wildcards to the 2014 Ultimate Tournaments will open on the 1st September, and continue through until the 15th September. The successful nominees will then be notified of their Wildcard invite within 2 weeks. Should a Wildcard invite be declined, the judges may vote for an additional Wildcard player out of the nominations received, or simply offer the invite to the next player in line on the relevant League ladder at their discretion.

Obviously, any member of the current year's judging panel will be ineligible for entry.

Interstate & International Competitors.
There are 2 ways that interstate & international players may gain entry to the Ultimate Tournaments.
- By travelling to Western Australia during the year and playing at enough events to be positioned highly on one of the WestGamer Tournament League ladders, or;
- By being nominated & receiving one of the "WildCard" invitations.

Reserve Players.
In addition to the confirmed qualifiers for each game system, we will also be issuing a "Reserve Invite" to a single player in each game system determined by the next potential qualifying position in the standard manner. This player will submit an army list as normal and is effectively requested to be on standby in the case of any late cancellation or no-show on the day. If this occurs, then the reserve player is elevated to full competitor status immediately and able to compete in the same way as all other players at the event. If all players attend and no dropouts occur, then the reserve player will not get the opportunity to compete (though has our sincere thanks for supporting the event). In the case of multiple no-shows on the day of the tournament for a single game system, the reserve will only be required in order to maintain an even number of players - otherwise they will not be requested to play.

So in summary - get your army ready, get out there and play in some events! Only the best will qualify for the Ultimate Tournaments, but you will have several opportunities throughout the year to prove that you are worthy of an invite. Play hard and we'll see you there!

Luke can you confirm the following,
Quote:
WARHAMMER 40,000 EVENTS
- Events permitting the use of Lords of War, Superheavy Vehicles, Gargantuan Creatures or Apocalyptic Weapons (including the additional weapon types available in the Escalation & Stronghold Assault expansions) will count as the Casual event category for the General's League Ladder and not award any Podium Bonus points. (They will still award full points as normal on the Standard League Ladder.)
If for example Janisarries is 4 games and 1500 points and has 30 players, it will count as a casual event for generalship but a medium event for the standard league?

Thanks

Gary

I can't really answer that properly without a players pack to refer to with the event conditions - but if we're assuming that you are permitting Lords of War etc, then yes - you would be correct.

Thanks,

Sorry I was posting on the fly @ work, I missed your more detailed explanation thread.

Yes Stronghold and Escalation are probably going to be allowed at Janisarries.

Or option 3,

WIN THE PREVIOUS YEAR. :P

I will def be flying back to Perth to defend my title.

Hi Luke

Could you explain the rational behind reducing the size of the Fantasy and Warmahordes events but not the 40k one?

Looking at the leagues for 2014 Warmahordes has had the most events by far (we need to get Good Games involved with GW lol!), variable numbers but with several events reaching 20 players, 54 players on the league ladder, and it looks like Sanctify will be the single biggest event of the three systems this year. Fantasy has had far fewer events but has had its best attendance in years, and the strongest attendance overall of the three systems in 2014 (with all the events this year being over 20 players) and having 61 players on the ladder. 40K events by contrast haven’t reached 20 players at all this year, have 55 players on the ladder, and the fewest events of the three systems.

I'm not trying to cause problems or anything, but would love to know what we as a community can do to be deemed worthy of getting the larger event back, everyone loves larger events.
