Post subject:  Khemri at sandgroper

I had initially been looking at a number of teams as I had been advised that I was to be challenged, I was leaning towards wood elves but after the anticipated challenge was withdrawn (after the state league game victory bragging) and knowing I would be working nights finishing 7am friday morning I figured I would just go for the fun of it so I figured I would taKe one of the teams not represented. At first I didnt want to even consider Khemri as I enjoy the passing game something not normally associated with a starting Khemri team, but they could bring the bash and knowing i was going
to be struggling to stay awake during games 3 & 4 on saturday mindlessly hitting things seemed to be the way to go.

The team: The nameless undead - the name was something decided on the trip to sandgroper Sat morning.
4 Tomb Guardians (2 starting with guard)
2 Blitz-ras (no skills to start with as i wanted to give 1 an agility stat increase as i figured Id be in a position to get one, and the other i wanted diving catch or catch)
4 Skeletons (all 4 started with block due to wanting to be able to bash as safely as possible)
1 Ithaca Benoin (being the only Khemri player it was safe to assume no one else would be taking this star, and Ithaca gave me a good thrower which was able to pick up and run the ball)

3 re-rolls, 1 fan, 1 coach, 1 cheerleader.

Game1: wood elves
I had my chances this game not that the 3-1 score reflects this much, I almost scored the first TD but give an elf a gap to dodge through and a wardancer that doesnt kill itself leaping its very hard to hide behind a body shield wall, the ball ended up going into the crowd and being thrown near the end zone, unfortunatley elves got there first and a successful long bomb saw an elf cross the line first. My inability to break AV 7 didnt help my cause much (4-1 cas)

Game2: Slaan
Ive never played with or against slaan and I can see why Outcast said 5 rerolls min required, I never try rolling that many d6's which can lead to face planting. Ithaca was taken out of play before my 2nd turn started (and remained ko'd all match) so I was lucky that the end score was 0-0 draw. 5-0 cas def helped me, but when your having to consider dodging the AG2 player to pick up the ball and long bomb to a tomb guardian who needs 4 go for its to make the line you know your chances are slim at best.

Game3: Elves (pro)
My first victory 2-0, the 4-0 cas def helped but I really struggled this game breaking AV7, mostly I had reduced the elves speed advantage with most of them having to stand up each turn allowing me to constantly get back into the elves faces. Ithaca picking up on rerolled 3's (and i failed two consecutive turns to pick up the ball) helped and the 7 movement and 2+ dump off also helped with the scoreboard

Game4: Skaven
At this stage i was doing a stellar effort staying awake, but based on the end result I could have just slept through it and wrote it off as a bad dream 0-6 TD. The Weather was against me starting off in Sweltering heat, you'd
think Khemri would be used to the heat but not these guys after the skaven scored turn two I had 4 players failing the d6 roll to come back to the field leaving me with 6 players on the field for my turn 2, soon the skaven scored again.
The weather then changed and i was playing in a blizzard. Once again I struggled with breaking AV7, most of my cas came at the end of the 2nd half (5-4 cas).

In the draft i picked up +1Ag and a normal skill (I chose surehands based on my inability to handle the ball when ever I lost Ithaca)

Game5: Chaos pact.
This was a game that could have gone either way 1-1 draw, my first block SI'ing the blocking minotaur apothed to SI was a major help to my team, I'd almost stopped the first TD and had possession of the ball looking to score against the recieve but the Pact got the ball back off me and the failed go for it saw the Pact free to score. I scored the equaliser without too much problem then the Pact came at me again and almost scored and thanks to a 1 dice block the pact went down. I was able to pick up the ball but the handoff to Ithaca (who would have run to the scrimage line and thrown to the surehands blitzra within scoring range) failed on my turn 7. Turn 8 Ithaca picked up the ball and passed successfully unfortunately the catch failed and the game was over
The pouring rain had stopped the Khemri's ball efforts (cas 4-1)

Game6: Dark elves
I'd been consistantly loosing fans rolls and this game my opponent rolled more than double. This game was my worst for breaking armour with only 2 cas scored. But it was my best effort with the ball winning 3-1, the Delf scored first and I soon equalised, I scored soon after recieving in the 2nd half and then managed to get the ball from the elves with an intercept (my third for the tourney) then bashed my way up the sideline and caged until turn 8.

Game7: Skaven
Having lost to Rabid's skaven the day before I wasnt expecting great things. But this time the weather wasnt against me and the cas started early (5-1) with three of the cas being blodging gutter runners. It was a close hard fought struggle with the threat of OT looming. At two all with only a few rounds to go a riot hit the pitch and the ref rolled the clock back giving the Khemri 3 turns to score, they only needed 2. Once again it looked like OT would be played and the Khemri played a deeper defence than normal, but the perfect defence put the skaven on the back foot not being ablt to rely on the rat orge punching a hole the skaven set up ready for a turn 8 TD but then my game winning card was played at the beginning of my turn 8 turning all players into rookie gobos and leaving the rats 1 square short of the line Khemri win 3-2

Overall a better result than i expected having lost only 2 matches and I got the undead star player i wanted as a prize.

I probably wouldnt change too much but if i knew i was going to be playing 3 elf teams, 2 skaven and a slaan I would have dropped 1 tomb guardian and upgraded 2 skeletons to throwras for the extra movement and surehands, I would have still kept block on them but wouldnt have given surehands to the blitzra.
Swapping the 2 guard for mighty blow would probably helped a lot with the teams i faced, but not if my tourney run was all bash teams

+1Ag on a Kemri team that would have been worth it weight in gold!

looking at ur opposition, that was a horror run of teams, almost all agility teams!

after the +1Ag increase i didnt loose a game and scored 7TD and only conceded 4TD (would have scored another TD first game day 2 if not for the pouring rain), the +1Ag was a godsend :D
I would have liked diving catch on the other blitzra but as it wasnt on the table there was little chance getting a doubles roll and Ag

True i was expecting some more bash teams thus 4 tomb guardians (2 with guard) - 3 guardians and one with guard would prob have been enough based on what i'd faced, allowing me 2 throwras to work with the blitzras on the flanks
still cant complain it was like having a seasons worth of experience in 2 days without the worry of decay. Best way to be able to face a team is to have played it yourself and know its strenghts and weaknesses. After day 1 i'd changed how i set them up and that made a diff also

firstly a week off before the tourney so im functioning during days, as to teams no idea, I may wait again and see what teams no one else wants to play - and then choose the one where i can make the Naf top 50 even if i loose (theres only 22 other Aust Khemri teams on the Naf lists :) )
