I can certainly see Retribution being the faction that best suits your painting style Olly, and this confirms it - excellent work! Nice work on the Skinwalkers too Aza - I'm just about to get mine painted up, so I can take a fully-painted pKrueger list to Champs. It did me well at Dungeonmachine, so why change when you're onto a winner (or at least a fun list)? :D

another angry elf joins the fray. Test mini for the unit so the rest should be alot quicker to paint now I've figured it out :D

How would you guys paint frozen/cold undead skin?

I've tried googling images. But they're either a) gross/creepy or b) irrelevant.

...

Also, any good recipes for wood grain or bone?

I usually just start with like, Desert Yellow and go straight to drybrushed Bleached, highlight White. Or whatever the current ones are called.

For the Gallows Groves I painted recently, I started with a PP Cryx Base layer, with a Karak Stone drybrush, and then an Agrax Earthshade wash. You could also use a grey drybrush and a light black wash to get a more silvered wood grain finish. Either way, starting wood with a brown is a mistake, I think - very little wood is actually as brown as brown paint.

Holy crap. I actually painted models. One Bane Thrall tester and a unit of Mechanithralls.

Image

I have so many models to paint that I'm just shooting for tabletop standard. Having them painted is more important than them being amazing.

...

I found a pretty good shortcut. Start with a black spray, then a dark silver one. Then it's just a case of painting around the silver. Take the Bane Thrall. I've also experimented using rust effects on the Mechanithralls.

Spray, blue, dark brass, base. Wash the whole thing black. Highlight. Done.

I'm weighing up if I'm going to push forward with doing snow. So many.

I really like the mechanithralls, I may pinch the way you've done that!

They look a lot better now that they've been based.

I decided to go with snow afterall.

Snow, crushed glass and good old Highland Tuft.
