Wallace has to be Lt if you want Inspiring Leadership, but the Dog Soldiers get more without it with Impetuous and being irregular just means you will spend orders on them.

There are two SAS minis available, one just totes a chain rifle. The spec op mini will be necessary for Jarrod's tourney next year, and they are just fun to play with.

What is the role of your Forward Observers? Do you have grenade launchers or something for them to help?? I can't tell off the list
3 reasons,

1. I like the sas model, and want the spec ops guy... who looks like he could fill in as SAS
2. In tourny play, I believe FO is required to actually interact with objectives?
3. I like the sas model, and want the spec ops guy... who looks like he could fill in as SAS

Trust me, no tactical plan here...

EDIT: FO SAS just get rifles...

Oh no, I agree SAS would be cool, just normally you pay more for a FO version of a model, so figured if the option for non-FO SAS was there you could save points

Alrighty... spitballing here.

Achilles (spitfire) LT
Patroclus (spitfire)
Myrmidon officer (shotgun) COC
Myrmidon (chain rifle)
Myrmidon (shotgun)
Myrmidon (combi-rifle)
2 netrods.

249 points, 8 orders, 4.5 SWC, just over $50 on Batal (minus the netrods... I figure I can make or find some cool ones out of my bits box).

Too small? What glaring things am I missing. Except HMG's, sniper files and hackers. I think I just got caught up on my conversion idea for the Myrmidons... and it's SO CHEAP!!!

If you come across any MSV snipers you may be in a bit of trouble, as you lack in the range department and your OCDs do nothing, but tactic wise what were you thinking? as I can see 5 cheerleaders and 2 netrods for Achilles

I'll be honest. I don't actually play yet. However!

My thinking is to Link team (I have to wrap my head around the different Link requirements for Aleph) and basically... what you said. One team defensive or slowly moving up the board, Achilles/Patroclus just running around kicking heads and taking names.

I think Patroclus might be a bit of a hefty investment there for what you get. You might be better off changing one of the Myrmidons (the shotgun, most like) out for a Spitfire Myrmidon, and using the remaining points to get a specialist or so in there, and some orders that are more reliable than netrods (which can scatter into LOS for the enemy to gun down mercilessly - one is a sound investment, but two of them for orders can be risky, or so my friend Dan's experience against me would suggest).

Maybe something like this? No real authority on Aleph, just playing about with things!

Achilles (spitfire + LT)
Myrmidon Office (shotgun + COC)
Myrmidon (Spitfire)
Myrmidon (chain rifle)
Myrmidon (chain rifle)
Thorakitai (engineer)
Yudbot
Myrmidon (chain rifle - as disposable smoke to run up first/ play fast and loose with)
Ekdromos (chain rifle)
Netrod

Not so sold on the final Myrmidon or the Ekdromos (he really wants at least a combi rifle, or to be Diomedes), but you can either start him on the table and use his super-jump to cross into nests of cheerleaders when the opportunity presents itself, or outflank and hammer an exposed spot. Thorakitai gives you a specialist, and also lets you recover dudes from EM damage and glue guns (things that people would want to use to shut down Achilles, because he's a monster) - the yudbot is his robo-helper, so no more really needs to be said. You could do a single thorakitai with the Spec Ops model if you wanted to, too.

Otherwise, that looked like a solid list, and really, you can't go too wrong with the list-building in Infinity, because most of the army's strength comes from how you play it on the tabletop :D

I am thinking of changing things a bit, don't have the list building thingo at work, but something like...

Ajax (Lt)
Myrmidon officer (COC)
3 myrmidons (range of options, including a hacker)
Ekdromos
Ekdromos character officer dude
Netrod
Something to make up points

The more I am looking at this game, the more I am sold on ALEPH: Greeky types and actually starting it once my Thesis is done and I have earned some family brownie points back.

:) Thanks for the added info though! I especially like the idea of the random Thorakatai (spec ops model)!

Well I thought with some free time I might do a few more starter box lists getting back with Yu Jing

Like the vanilla Pan O it isn't quite 150 points, and all it takes is a single blister to boost up the long range fire power so look at the HMG Zhanshi or you could try the spitfire celestial guard

Not use to Yu Jing play style but having 2 HI guys means you can take a bit of damage, though be careful when you do as the armour may not hold out every time. Though you could do similar tactics as the Pan o list.

Again needs that little more expanding to get it to 150 points, there are a few things you can do firstly you could get a heap of cheap guys (volunteers fit this role) to max out your orders, secondly you could find a unit like a metro or a volunteer with a HMG to provide that long support or lastly you can replace one of your heavier guys with a tank hunter and some other fillers (see previous options or make a choice on what is aavailable) because auto-cannon fun.

You want the highlander grey to be close because dual wielding shotguns work best at that range, while the veteran can support mid range with a t2 weapon (2 wounds per failed save) and the metro to provide suppressing fire at long range. The line kazaks are there to be order monkeys and Chasser runs interference with camo, a flame thrower and mines.

or

Similar to before but you also have the foxtrot run interference as well, and the tank hunter is the long range support with his autocannon and camo.

Unlike previous starter boxes you have some long range support in this box, though it is irregular you get it form the get go. This allows you to take any unit that has your fancy, but I would strongly suggest to grab regular troops due to the small order pool but makes it extremely flexible. So you can take a Lasiq with a sniper if you want more long range support, a Djanbazan if you want something that can heal itself as it runs up the field and is a bit heavier (it also has MSV lv2), a Ragik to swoop in and cause some disarray in the enemy's ranks, a Kum if you want something to zip towards the enemy, Tuareg if you want some TO camo fun and the list goes on like few more line grunts to give orders for the other models.

Where you have the Kaplan and Janissary marching up, the Kaplan able to provide suppression with its spitfire and Janissary to try to crack the higher armour guys. The sniper can provide good support as it has camo meaning its hard to hit and can camo attack things which is nice, also with infiltration you can get in a good sniper's nest from the start. The ghulams are mainly cheerleaders but are quite reasonable for a line troop with the higher will power. You could trade the Kaplan for an Odalisque or Muyib with a spitfire.

or you could try

A lot is the same as the last list but you have a Lasiq that can hang off buildings picking off targets at range, as it has x-visor (makes long range a 0 modifier and max range -3) and virral which causes two BTS saves per hit. alternatively you can take

where you have a cheap 5 point unit that you can sacrifice in a suicide blitz, and have a Lasiq with a virral rifle (short range but higher burst).

Generally things have gotten cheaper, so you can fit more in your list. Some options have been downgraded like hug to spitfires, and a lot cc specialists have gotten higher cc.
