Well, I'm starting to look at locking in my army list for the tournament, so I can try and get my stuff painted in time for it. I want to take my Aleph, but I'm having difficulty fitting in all of the stuff that I feel I need, so I figured I'd share my list-building process and thoughts with everyone here, both so I can get some advice and refine my list a bit, and also as an example of what goes into making an army list.

So, onto the list:

Image Aleph | 10 models
________________________________________________________

Image Deva Lieutenant (26|0)
Image Devabot
Image Dakini Tacbot Combi (13|0)
Image Dakini Tacbot Combi (13|0)
Image Dakini Tacbot Combi (13|0)
Image Chandra combi (+1 wip, +2 bts, Stun Pistol, Hacker (Hacking Device), Engineer) (16|0|12xp)
Image Myrmidon Chain (16|0)
Image Asura Spitfire (72|2)
Image Penthesilea (46|0)
Image Garuda Tacbot HMG (31|1.5)
Image Netrod (4|0)

Now, I should clarify here that I am trying to limit the amount of Assault Section choices I've taken, because I enjoy the Vedic stuff far more. Like, infinitely more.

The Deva Lieutenant with the Devabot makes for a seriously solid LT choice - WIP15 for the starting roll is one of the highest outside of characters, so that's a good start. Also, the Devabot with the heavy flamer makes for a great bodyguard that helps keep the heat off of the Deva herself - anyone who goes after her needs to get through the bot at the same time. Also, Devas having No Wound Incapacitation means that she can take a bit more damage before she falls over and drops me in Loss of Lieutenant.

Dakini Tacbots are cheap, cheerful, move fast and have mimetism. Using YAMS missions, we don't need to worry about getting specialists everywhere, so, given the speed of these dudes (and their fitting into my theme), they're the core of my line troops. They suffer a lot of drawbacks (no prone being one of them), and their ph is laughable, but they get the job done in the most efficient, unthinking way possible ;D

My Spec Ops does for my hacker (super-cheap for a hacker, yay spec ops!) and an engineer incase things get glued in place or EMPd. Depending on how some playtesting goes, I might get her a palbot instead of taking the netrod, but the extra order seems to be worth more at this point in time.

The Myrmidon is for a template weapon on the cheap, but mostly smoke. So much smoke. So smoke. This dude combos up with the Asura and all hell breaks loose in the burst of spitfire rounds that follow.

Speaking of, the Asura is the majority of the damage output in my list. MSV lvl3 on a model with BS14 is gross - in optimal range, you'll be landing 3/4 spitfire shots on targets in cover, and then, well, it sucks to be that guy. Also, 2 wounds, NWI for an extra pseudo-wound, massive WIP to discover literally everything (although she can shoot at markers directly herself without the need to discover), and, well, even though she's a massive investment, she's basically a TAG in miniature.

Penthesilea is my response to big things like TAGs, Achilles and other things that can't live for too long. With ODD and iKhol, and no way to make normal rolls happen on the charge, she's got a decent chance of sinking her monofiliament into things when she charges, and she can shoot about the place and disrupt the enemy whenever she doesn't have such a juicy target to tackle. What she doesn't want to fight are enemies with martial arts, though.

The Garuda is an outflanking HMG who does pretty much what he says on the box - I've used this guy a couple of times, and he hasn't disappointed yet.

Lastly, the netrod arrives before turn 1 starts, and gives me an order for 4 points.

So, this is a bit of a rough draft of my first list - already I've seen ways to make it even more 'in-theme' that I might try out, but as a starting point, this is what I came up with. Let me know what you think, and furnish me with suggestions!

A few things you might want to note:
Firstly you can have two list of the same sectorial or both vanilla, it does help cover the gaps a little more.
Secondly +2 bts? Do you mean -6bts in the advancement, or has something gone wrong?

Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me - totally forgot the two-list format

Looks like the way that Aleph Toolbox displays the upgrades in the army list printout thing is just counting the upgrade numbers - you're right, it's -6bts on the Spec Ops.

Shall consider things again and post up a potential second list :D

How have you found Penthesilea? I have been wanting to try her out for ages, but haven’t managed to fit her into a list yet. I guess its worth noting that since TAGs have structure points the I-Khol won’t work on them….so only a 50% ish chance against most.

I have been running the deva lieutenant for quite a while (with Eudoros thrown in from time to time) and really like having a chain of command model to back her up. She is tough for a medium infantry, but still only a medium infantry…..being in loss of lieutenant I have found almost always equals a loss in scenario missions (due to limited time). Having chain of command also allows you to really be aggressive with all those template weapons the deva + bot have access to. The easiest way to fit chain of command in is on the spec ops, but you would have to give up all but your basic hacking ability to fit it on.

Penthesilea has been rather brutally awesome when I have used her, rockets up the table and slices and dices very nicely thankyouverymuch.
