The tournaments locally are YAMS, right? Is there a reason people use that over ITS, the official one?

I understand that's kinda like Malifaux in that you get a number of objectives to complete for VPs, most VPs wins?
Yes it is like Malufaux, the reason being behind the choice is list selection. By this I mean in YAMS you can take pretty much any list and still take objectives, while in the ITS missions there are specialists required which require certain troops to be taken (doc, hacker, engineer, forward observer, chain of command and etc...).

Also if you feel you want to try either Shasvastii or Aleph, or at least see how they play I would suggest to try and witness a game between me and Karl or organise a game against me or Karl.

In the past tournaments here have used YAMS, its a little bit more 'new player friendly' in that you can take whatever you like since you don’t have to worry about what can actually score, but I think its probably bad overall as it makes things like TAG rampages much more viable (not good for new players). Also, ITS missions only came out last year so haven’t had a lot of time to really get traction within player groups, some have jumped on it faster than others. Hopefully we will see more and more of ITS (I think its vastly superior to YAMS), in fact I think the next event Jarrod is running is an ITS one?

Yep, you have the right idea on how they work. There is normally one primary mission with various points for how well you do at it, then a couple of secondary objectives worth less than the primary.

The list looks fine for annihilation games. You have a solid mix of difficult to hit units, and units that can see through enemy modifiers to hit, and units that can take a hit and keep on going. Its a pretty blunt instrument of a list (but there’s nothing wrong with that!) With good solid play you will just grind people down with that type of list.

Its worth saying though that it probably wouldn’t transfer well over to ITS missions. Only the naga and the thorakitai could be made scoring units, and thorakitai are a bit slow when not in a link team. You could end up very dependant on your naga who isn’t that hard to kill.

Fake lieutenants are always good, especially when you dont have chain of command. If people can look at your list and know who the lt is purely from the units that are on the table you have o be ready for an assassination run.

Jarrod and I have a game at outpost south this week (300 points ITS) if you fancy watching it. Otherwise, just give us a shout for a demo, we both have a couple of factions each, so you could have a dabble with shas or ALEPH to see how you find it (there are always some surprising subtleties that aren’t apparent on paper)
